What if every school, every afterschool program, every counseling center had someone whose job was to make creativity work for their specific community? That's what I do. And yes, it should exist everywhere.

I'm Karen Minette Weinstein — arts educator, curriculum designer, and creator of the Creative Flow Method.

In my work as an art teacher I've always put people over process. My approach draws on years of SEL practice, mindfulness training, and experience working with diverse learners across every kind of classroom and community setting. I meet students where they are — whether a preschooler in a Montessori environment, a high schooler who thinks they "can't do art," or a burned-out teacher who's forgotten they can be creative. The goal is always the same: a room where everyone feels capable, calm, and genuinely themselves.

The Creative Flow Method grew out of all of it.

I hold an M.S.Ed. from Bank Street College of Education, a BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art, and certifications in Montessori teaching, SEL and yoga (Breathe for Change), and curriculum design (Educator Forever). My content development work has included projects for Sesame Workshop, Nickelodeon, and Public Television.

Through Ongoingly Create, I work with schools, organizations, educators, and individual learners — in New England, the Tri-State Area, and virtually, I can meet you where you are.

I can show you how much children enjoy drawing — and how much more they enjoy it when they're shown how in a way that's developmentally appropriate, encouraging, and genuinely sensitive to where they are. From there, I can help your staff weave drawing into whatever ELA program your school has already adopted, because it will bring joy and creativity and give children another way into the literacy and writing process. And I can support your team for as long as you need.

Drawing supports far more than art skills. When shapes, lines, and steps are modeled slowly and clearly, something reliable happens — focus sharpens, frustration drops, and people discover they can do something they weren't sure they could do. That experience builds confidence that's hard to manufacture any other way.

For young children especially, something deeper is happening. Every time a child picks up a pencil and follows a sequence — tracing a shape, completing a step, finishing something meaningful — they are building the hand-to-brain connections that support fine motor development, pre-writing skills, sequential thinking, and sustained attention. These are not art skills. They are the foundational skills that make reading, writing, and learning possible. Drawing doesn't prepare children for literacy. In the most direct sense, it is literacy development — and most schools have never taught it that way.

The structure is the key. Just enough to take the pressure off, while still leaving plenty of room for choice, imagination, and making the drawing your own. Which means everyone in the room — regardless of age, ability, or experience — ends up with something that feels genuinely theirs. This is a practice designed for every child, not just those who struggle.

When people draw together with that kind of intention, four things reliably show up: Calm, Creativity, Confidence, and Connection.
